CNC Fiber Laser Cutter

Winter CNC Fiber Laser Cutter Maintenance

The laser inside the CNC fiber laser cutter requires an ambient temperature of no less than 5°C. When the ambient temperature of the equipment is lower than 5°C, the equipment needs to be antifreeze maintained. Scientific maintenance can effectively extend the service life of the equipment.

1. Antifreeze Principle of CNC Fiber Laser Cutter

Cooling water has a "freezing point". When the cooling water temperature is lower than the "freezing point", the cooling water solidifies and expands in volume, which will cause the flow components in the laser cooling system, such as water cooling plates, water distributors and other components to expand, deform, and crack, and even damage optical devices, causing the laser to be returned to the factory for repair. In severe cases, the laser will be scrapped. Please pay attention to winter antifreeze measures for the laser.

2. Maintenance Measures

2.1 Ensure the Ambient Temperature

If conditions permit, use heating facilities to keep the working environment temperature of the laser above 0C. Generally, the temperature setting above 5°C is more appropriate.

2.2 Keep the Chiller Running

If there is no power outage in the local area, the chiller can be kept running, and both the low-temperature water and the normal temperature water are set to about 5°C (to ensure that the cooling water is above the freezing point and save electricity)

2.3 Use Antifreeze

When the temperature is below 5℃, add antifreeze for CNC fiber laser cutter in time. It is recommended to use antifreeze for laser equipment. The function of antifreeze is to assist in antifreeze, and it cannot heat or keep warm. In areas where the temperature is too low, it is necessary to pay attention to the protection of the equipment to avoid unnecessary losses.
Reference ratio of antifreeze temperature:

Temperature Ratio (antifreeze: water)
-45~-42℃ 6:4
-35~-32℃ 5:5
-25~-22℃ 4:6
-15~-12℃ 3:7
-5~-2℃  2:8

2.4 Drain Cooling Water

When the CNC fiber laser cutter is not used for a long time or the power is off, be sure to drain the water in the chiller to prevent ice from causing damage to the equipment.

Drainage Steps:

  • Before draining, make sure to turn off all power supplies, open the drain valve, and drain the water in the machine.
  • Remove the water inlet and outlet pipes behind the chiller (mark them for easy and correct reinstallation).
  • Unscrew the filter element of the chiller and drain the water in the filter element.
  • Use 0.4MPA (4KG) gas to one end of the water pipe to drain the water in the laser.

Note: If you need to use an air gun to blow and drain, you need to open all interfaces (including the water inlet) in advance, and use an air gun to blow gas from the water inlet, not from the water outlet. The drainage gas pressure should not be too high, otherwise it may damage the laser. Make sure that all accumulated water is completely drained to prevent residual liquid from freezing and damaging the water cooling pipes and devices.

3. Precautions for Starting the Laser Equipment

  • Ensure that the indoor temperature is 5-35℃ before the CNC fiber laser cutter can be turned on.
  • Check whether the water cooling pipe is frozen. The laser equipment cannot be turned on if it is frozen.
  • If there is ice, please turn on the heating facilities, adjust the ambient temperature of the laser equipment to 5-35℃, and let it stand for more than 4 hours. Wait until the ice melts naturally before proceeding to the next step. Do not use violent deicing to avoid damaging the equipment hardware.
  • After confirming that the laser equipment is not frozen, you need to turn on the chiller for preheating.
  • The laser can be turned on only after the chiller circulation temperature rises to normal temperature (recommended temperature: about 25±3℃).
  • After normal startup, adjust the energy to below 30%, preheat the laser for about 10 minutes, and then carry out normal production operations.

Summary

By following the above operations, the risk of failure of CNC fiber laser cutters in low temperature environments in winter can be effectively reduced, ensuring the normal operation of the equipment.
